Background and Education
I didn't like going to school before college. My entire motivation to go to college was athletics oriented. I was a runner and I was going to run. Once there, I decided to make the most of the situation and focus on the books as well. I decided to pursue journalism because my favorite class was Journalism 101. I'm not kidding. I enjoyed the direct nature of the writing, the challenge of reporting and the pressures of accuracy.
I was drawn in as more journalism courses were piled on my schedule. Features writing, media ethics, layout and design, multimedia. I comleted the necessary requirement for my degree and filled my time with graduate-level courses. When I graduated in 2011, the professors elected me as "Top Graduate" of the Journalism department. The award was not based purely on GPA; rather, on the candidates likelihood to succeed after graduation. I was honored.
Throughout my junior and senior year, I wrote for a daily in my home town. After graduating, athletics persisted as I entered a career as a professional triathlete. I balance the feast or famine lifestyle of professional athletics through freelance. I have written for various daily, weekly, monthly, annual, print, web, local, national and international publications.
